STORMSKUD start screen: a small boat on a stormy sea and the line “Small ship. Big problems.”

01Context

Multiplayer games usually start with downloads, accounts and app stores. The goal was the opposite: a link you share with friends, and seconds later you are playing.

02Approach

Keep everything in the browser, and keep one server in charge of the truth so every player sees the same sea. Model the ships and the water in code, so there are no paid assets and nothing heavy to load.

03Product

A naval battle for 2 to 8 players with wind, currents, rocks and a storm wave; three ships that handle differently; XP and a shop with hull designs; and solo play against bots.

04System

A 3D scene drawn with WebGL, and an authoritative server that runs every match in real time. Sound is generated live in the browser, and reduced-motion settings are respected.

Built with Three.js · WebGL · Node.js · WebSockets · Web Audio

05Outcome

Live and free to play, with the source code public.
